Recitals Through the Years

At The Macholah Ballet, Inc., every season tells a story—filled with music, movement, laughter, and memories that last a lifetime. Our annual Recitals are more than just performances; they’re milestones, marking how far our dancers have come and how much heart our community continues to pour into us each year.

From around the world to outer space, here’s a look back at some of our most unforgettable end of year recitals!

2009 – Praise From Every Nation

While it wasn’t our ‘first ever performance’, it WAS our first ever formal Recital! We had been dancing since 2002, focusing on class structure, growth, and informal performances through the year.

In 2009, we made the dream a reality! With around 60 dancers and the excitement of our inaugural studio-wide show, Praise From Every Nation took the stage hosted by Scott Depot Christ Fellowship Church (now Bridge Church). Each class portrayed a different nation and we ended with a cupcake reception in the lobby. Different missionaries set up display tables based on the nations that were represented in the performance…..and away we grow!

2010 – Yesterday, Today, & Forever

We hit another milestone this year; we rented a theater! We had an amazing year of growth and that translated into needing more capacity for audience members. Our dancers enjoyed the ‘stage experience’, complete with curtains, stage lights, and dressing rooms. We had a scare when a storm threatened to knock the power out BUT the generators kicked on and the show continued!

This year’s theme was called Yesterday, Today & Forever: Proclaiming God’s Faithfulness from Generation to Generation. We danced through the decades starting in the 1900’s and ending in Today. Full classes, full hearts, and an auditorium full of support made this year truly special.

2012 – Let Freedom Ring

We had to skip a year while we changed building locations, but our strong studio family was up for anything and we came back better than ever! This year brought on three new instructors to help with the influx of students and with it, lots of creative choreography and dazzling dances!

This year’s theme was a patriotic salute to our country while also declaring true freedom in Christ. Let Freedom Ring showcased the Revolutionary War, Betsy Ross, Lady Liberty & Uncle Sam, Fireworks and more!

2013 – In The Beginning

Highlighting the Story of Creation in Genesis, our dancers enjoyed moments from Eden! Starting off the show with darkness + light, to the water, trees, birds, and fish; everything God created was good!

This was the year the teachers danced together for the first time; a sweet moment to kick off the show.

2014 – It’s The Most Wonderful Time of the Year

We got in the Christmas Spirit for our Holiday-themed Recital! From snowmen to the Sugar Plum Fairy to the Elf on the Shelf, everyone was holly jolly by the end of the show!

This was the first year our Company dancers performed as part of the Recital. Since we had just debuted The Nativity Ballet in the winter, we thought it was a perfect fit to bring The Nativity Ballet into our Spring Recital. It was a special day reminding us of the true meaning of Christmas!

2015 –  Happily Ever After

This Recital was titled, Happily Ever After: Fairy Tales, Love Songs, & the Deep, Deep Love of Jesus! We tapped to classic love songs, twirled like magical fairies, and leaped to songs that represented Christ’s love for us.

Our Company dancers performed their original ballet, True Love, about the crucifixion of Jesus. This love, so pure and unfathomable, was demonstrated through Jesus Christ's selfless sacrifice on the cross, an act that continues to resonate through time.

This was also the last year we hosted a cupcake reception after the show! After a certain number of audience members, that translates into A LOT of cupcakes. To finish off our last reception, we invited Royal Princesses, WV to bring their princesses for a meet and greet! The Snow Sisters, Rapunzel, Sleeping Beauty, Snow White, Princess Sophia, and TinkerBell came by to say hi and was a fun ending to a magical day.

2016 – Almost Heaven

We celebrated our home state in this year’s recital! Almost Heaven highlighted iconic West Virginia: blue and gold ballerinas, our state bird and state flower, and our resident Mothman in addition to songs about our someday home in Heaven! Our Company dancer’s performed The New Jerusalem based on Revelation 21.

We had great support from the West Virginia Department of Tourism; they supplied us with enough goodies to make swag bags for the first 100 audience members!

This was also the first year we used online ticket sales and we never. looked. back. Our studio family agrees that this year’s theme was a favorite and brought all the nostalgic feels for our homestate.

2017 – Two by Two

We were over the rainbow to perform our Two by Two recital based on Noah’s Ark! Our dancers were various animals (deer, doves, elephants, bunnies and more!) or the colors of the rainbow and our Company dancers brought their show The Flood to the stage based on Noah’s life as he builds the ark and weathers the Flood.

This recital struck home for our area; WV had been recovering from extensive flood damage that Spring and many audience members were personally affected. On top of that, our show was delayed by a few hours while a massive storm rolled through. Once we got our show going, the storm passed and as our audience members were leaving the venue, we were all touched to see a double rainbow grace the skies, a precious promise that the Lord will never flood the earth again. How timely the Lord reminds us of His love for us!

2018 - O Taste & See

Our ‘sweetest’ recital yet! Recital 2018 was all about the Fruits of the Spirit, lots of delicious candy, and reflecting on the sweetest name we know: Jesus! From our tiny performers to advanced company dancers, O Taste & See that the Lord is Good was filled with community, creativity, and the joy of dancing for the Lord.

This was the recital that the venue’s air conditioning stopped working! We had to roll in fans on the stage so our dancers wouldn’t melt; stage lights plus no AC equals lots of sweaty dancers!

2019 - Go!

A fresh wave of excitement rolled in this year! New studio space and another influx of students made for an exciting year!
That spring, we presented GO!, featuring dances from all over the world, highlighting missionaries to different countries and encouraging our audience to share the gospel with all of creation! “Here am I, send me!”

"Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation." Mark 16:15

✔️ Fun fact: our recital colors were white, black, and red: the colors of the Gospel!
⚪️ White for the pages of scripture
⚫️ Black for the words on the page
🔴 Red for the words of Jesus!

If you’re familiar with our recitals, you know that we begin each dance routine with a scripture chosen by our teachers that represented the class’s recital dance. This year, we made it extra memorable by recording the scripture in the native language of the country each class was portraying! For example, if a class was dancing about China, the scripture was recorded in Chinese, etc. It was incredibly powerful to hear God’s Word spoken in over 24 different languages including Welsh, Zambian, Scottish, Italian, French and more!

2020 - Royal Identity

The year that changed everything! Amidst the challenges of COVID-19, we pivoted, adapted, and danced anyway. Our theme for that year was called Royal Identity: Chosen, Holy, Special. We danced about our identity in Christ Jesus and celebrating Him as the King of Kings! “But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God's special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.” 1 Peter 2:9

Our Recital went Virtual that year; our student performed to an empty auditorium with no audience while we filmed. It became a great reminder that we strive to dance for an audience of One (Jesus!) and that our worth is not based on audience approval but how we use our gifts to honor the Lord.

This show became a shining example of resilience and joy in the face of uncertainty.

2021 - Otherworldy

3-2-1 Blast Off! We had SPACE-tacular journey through the galaxy! Otherworldy: Made for Another World was Mrs. Lauren’s dream theme; she always said if she could find a way to incorporate space + ballet, she would…and she did!

Our dancers sparkled & shined as shooting stars, astronauts, aliens + more as well as songs about our journey to the Celestial City and our heavenly home.

"If we find ourselves with a desire that nothing in this world can satisfy, the most probable explanation is that we were made for another world." ― C.S. Lewis

"For he was looking forward to the city that has foundations, whose designer and builder is God…having acknowledged that they were strangers and exiles on the earth. But now they desire a better country, that is, a heavenly one: wherefore God is not ashamed to be called their God: for he hath prepared for them a city." Hebrews 11:10-16

Our Company dancers opened with their original ballet, The Pilgrim's Progress based off of the classic book, The Pilgrim's Progress from This World, to That Which Is to Come.

2022 - Sow & Reap

It’s Harvest-time! Sow & Reap: A Harvest of Righteousness included Scarecrows + Crows, Sunflower Fields, Seedtime & Harvest, The Parable of the Sower, Grandma's Garden, Harvest Moon, Green Acres, Dancing Daisies and more! "Sow righteousness for yourselves, reap the fruit of unfailing love, and break up your unplowed ground; for it is time to seek the LORD." Hosea 10:12

Our Company dancers debuted their original ballet, The Prodigal Son which is based on the parable in Luke 15. We took the biblical story and set it during the 1950’s for a fun vibe!

This was the year we went completely digital on both Recital Programs & DVD Downloads!

2023 - With Us In The Wilderness

The year we hit the trails! We trekked through the wilderness for Recital 2023. Through the desert or the forest, we explored how the Lord is always with us, even in the most desolate of places. Recital dances included Glamping with our Friends, a Teddy Bear Picnic, Israelites Wandering in the Wilderness, Streams in the Desert, and Campfires + Marshmallows as well as showcasing different National Parks, like the Grand Canyon and the Smokey Mountains!

We reached out to a handful of neighboring State Parks to provide some fun resources for our special day; our audience members received the ultimate hiking + trail + camping bundle featuring the following State Parks: Pennsylvania State Parks, Ohio State Parks, Kentucky State Parks, North Carolina State Parks and Recreation, West Virginia State Parks. We thought this was a great way to kick off summer break by planning a trip outdoors!

2024 - Sea Salt & Sun Light

Sea Salt & Sun Light marked our return to the stage in a big way! With beachy themes, ocean vibes, and renewed momentum, this theme encouraged us to be SALT & LIGHT in a dark world.

Our dancers dove headfirst into their craft and reminded us all what it means to create an impact and a ripple effect! We were all ready for a beach vacation after this show!

The Company dancers performed The Watchmaker’s Daughter during this show, based on the true story of Corrie ten Boom. There wasn’t a dry eye by the end; this incredibly moving story was definitely an audience favorite!

2025 - Kaleidoscope

Our most colorful show yet! We were over the rainbow to bring Kaleidoscope: Broken to Beautiful to the stage!

Just like a Kaleidoscope, our lives can seem like random bits and pieces, but when you look through the lens, Jesus has a purpose in bringing it all together in a new and exciting pattern! He picks up our crushed + broken pieces and transforms them into a beautiful mosaic of masterpieces!

”He has made everything BEAUTIFUL in its time.” Ecclesiastes 3:11
“He is near to the BROKEN and saves those that are CRUSHED in spirit.” Psalm 34:18

We featured 32 routines at our Spring Recital and showcased 243 costumes; it was bright, bold, and full of energy and our students dazzled us with their amazing talent!

Thank You for Dancing Through the Years With Us

From that first stage entrance in 2009 to the sequins and spotlight of 2026, each show has been a celebration of growth, creativity, and community. None of it would be possible without the support of our incredible dance families, dedicated staff, and passionate performers.

💫 Here’s to the memories we’ve made—and the magic still to come.
